Bill Belichick ends his tenure as coach of the New England Patriots.

January 11, 2024

In what he described as a decision in which he and team owner Robert Kraft “mutually agreed to part ways,” Belichick steps down after 24 seasons during which the Patriots won 13 AFC championships, 6 of its 9 Super Bowl appearances, and compiled an overall 296-133 record (but only 29-39 in the last four seasons, after the departure of quarterback Tom Brady). In addition to his success, the famously dour coach was known for his short, monotone responses at post-game press conferences, rules violations, and pithy sayings such as, “Do your job,” and “It is what it is.”
